There’s a heap of places to fish, a number of spots known only to Madfish Charters operator, John Taylor. As a local for many years, John knows every nook and cranny around Wilson’s Inlet, and the rivers that run into it.
Fish the shallow sand flats with Berkley soft plastic lures for the abundant Blue spot Flathead. Tales of tank-sized Flatties abound.
In the corners of the estuary, up against the banks, reeds and snags, if you know where to go, you can pull in many a black bream, and there are times when you better have your drag set just right. Some magnificent specimens have been caught.
If you get a good day you might catch some Flatties and KG’s early, then move on for some Pinkies and their driving runs. Wilson inlet is a nursery for Pink Snapper and in their season there are plenty there and of a very good size.
Some people prefer to kick back and take in the scenery all the way back to the Poddy Shot jetty. It’s up to you and all there for you. Whilst we support the Fisheries – Fish for the Future and sustainability there’s nothing better that a taking home fresh fillets of fish for your evening meal.
